179: Fri-Date | Bring On The Suck

Today’s Topic: Transitions in life

We’re less than 30 days away from moving from this beautiful life in Italy to Southern California. Although we’re excited about the move, we also love the life we’ve created here, so it’s going to be a big transition. We love that here nobody’s saying, “Would you like fries with that?” The other day Kim was at the deli and the guy said, “I want you to taste something. I’ve been cooking this ham for 40 hours.” It was the most amazing ham Kim had ever tasted and it wasn’t an upsell, he wanted to share it because he was proud of it.

We’re at the point in the transition where it’s starting to get a bit hard. Fun fact: the cost of living in SoCal is about twice as much as in Italy. Sophia will have to go to a new school, we’ll have to make new friends, and we have to rent a house. We’re doing calls with potential landlords and they’re asking, “Now, what is this Work Hard Play Hard business you have? I don’t need you to be having all these parties in the house.” We’re willing to spend up to 5K a month on renting a house, but that’s pretty low for an amazing house close to a beach in a good school district. Our flight from Italy was originally booked to Atlanta. We wanted to change it to land in California, and Delta was going to charge us $26,000, so we ended up buying new tickets with Air Italy.

The biggest gift we think you can give yourself with transition is to bring on the suck. In other words, acknowledge that transitions are hard, allow the shit to hit the fan and breathe through it. Know that God or the universe is conspiring in your favor to make your dreams come true.
