230: Wayne Diamond | The Uncut Gem of the Garment Industry

Resources:

Six or seven years ago, I was at the Delano hotel in Miami and I saw some guy telling stories in the pool. After a couple of cocktails, I was laughing my ass off. I don’t know who he is, he’s offensive, but I love him. The following year, I’m in Mykonos, and would you believe I hear the same voice again? A year later, I’m in the Crown Room at JFK, and I see them there again. So who was this guy?

His name is Wayne Diamond, known as “the Garmento.” In the 70’s and 80’s he dominated the women’s dresses and jumpsuit market, and made a fortune. As luck would have it, he ran into the Safdie Brothers, who created the new Adam Sandler movie Uncut Gems, and they fell in love with him. There was no controlling this interview, I just laughed and enjoyed the ride, and I’m sure you will too.
